Order Hemiptera (Homoptera), family Cupids, scale insects, mealybugs. The most common are plum mite, apple mite, olive beetle, pteridophytoneum, and greenhouse mealybug. Description of the pest. These are small insects with a very diverse body structure. Females are always wingless, larger than males, with a worm-like body, often covered with a waxy coating. Based on their appearance, midges are divided into three families: mealybugs (a soft body covered with a waxy, fluffy coating); cup-shaped (body convex, bare or covered with a waxy coating); scutes (covered by a shield not attached to the body).
Symptoms
The harmfulness of insects lies in the fact that they suck the juices from the plant and “infect” the plants with secretions that cause growth retardation, necrosis and death of shoots. Honeydew secreted by midges is very good “food” for honeydew fungi, which prevent the plant from digesting. Leaves and shoots become covered with black coating (soot).
Host plants
Deciduous and coniferous trees and shrubs, fruit trees and shrubs, ornamental and potted plants.
