The threat to plants in greenhouses is harmful insects, fungi, microorganisms. But moles are especially dangerous. I have been planting greenhouses for more than 20 years, during which time I have accumulated a wealth of experience.

Mole nutrition
Moles benefit gardeners. They feed on beetle larvae and bears, which harm plants. Animals do not disdain small snakes, mice and insects.
In case of severe hunger, they can feed on seeds and nutritious roots to maintain vitality.
It seems that if the moles are so positive, why drive them out of the site? They are gluttonous and need a lot of food, make supplies and a large number of moves. They spoil the roots and root crops with their tunnels.
How I fought moles
Still, although mammals are useful, they can do harm well on the site. I have collected several ways to remove a mole from a greenhouse, effective and not very effective. Everyone can decide for himself which one to use. I present to your attention:
- chemical;
- mechanical;
- folk;
- ultrasonic.
Chemical
In any specialized store you can buy substances for the destruction of moles. Usually they are in the form of small balls. They are placed in holes or scattered around the perimeter, falling asleep in all moves.
There are two types of drugs that work differently.
Most of the products have a strong smell and attract the animal, acting toxic. Some remedies only scare away moles.
Feeling a sharp smell, they leave the summer cottage. But, although moles have a good sense of smell, such a drug does not give full effectiveness.
Of the proven ones, there is "Antikrot". It is classified as an environmentally friendly supplement with diatomaceous earth and vegetable oils. The product also contributes to the natural and good development of plants. 1 pack of powder is designed for 1 square meter. Water the places where the composition is poured. When new minks appear, they are re-processed.
Mechanical
This method involves the use of special traps. They are bought in special stores or do it yourself. The industrial version is presented in the form of a cage, which is placed in a hole. The mole enters the cage, and the door closes automatically.
The method has its drawbacks. The door can close if the ground is trapped.
Noise and vibration
A propeller or spinner that has a battery powered motor. Moles are afraid of vibrations in the ground. After installation and fixing, the turntable is turned on. Moles run away from vibration, they absolutely do not like the disturbance in an apartment building.
The propeller can be replaced with a regular radio. A radio receiver is attached to the pole. Connect the wire and turn it on. The animal does not withstand vibration signals.
One of the most loyal methods is the alarm clock. It is enough to purchase 3 - 4 alarm clocks and set the signal at different times. Each device is placed in a glass jar. They close the jars and put them in the holes. The sound will frighten an unprepared person.
Joking aside, these sounds bored me much faster, and even more so my neighbors. I could not assess their advantage.
Folk methods
This is the cheaper option. It has no toxic effect on plants. The bottom line is to scare away various harsh aromas. The leader is Vishnevsky's ointment. It is impregnated with cotton wool and placed in a greenhouse around the perimeter.
You can use tar and turpentine. Their compositions are distinguished by a specific smell that is difficult to transfer. The fabric is impregnated with tar and placed near the entrances to the minks. For a longer smell, sprinkle with earth. It is possible to place a herring head or smoked fish skins in the hole.
But the practice of many gardeners shows that there is not much effectiveness of such procedures or it is better to use them as a preventive measure.
Vegetable
The easiest way using plants:
- Luke;
- garlic;
- peas;
- daffodils;
- gooseberry;
- tansy.
These plants have a very bright aroma that repels pests. It is enough to choose two plants. One of them should be planted along the edges of the perimeter of the greenhouse, and inside - the other. It will also be effective to place burdock thorns.
In the article on the link I recommend to get acquainted with others smells that repel moles.
Ultrasonic
Recently, a new method has become relevant. It is based on intolerance to sounds with a certain frequency. For this, a device with ultrasound was created. The disadvantage of an ultrasonic repeller is its limited range. Before purchasing, they are determined with the area of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbthe greenhouse.
This is a small cylindrical plate, inside which there is an ultrasonic wave generator. The device is inserted into conventional finger-type batteries. 1 device is placed in 1 greenhouse. It is located in the soil near the hole that appeared on the site of the latter.
From my own experience I will say - with a pitchfork on the water. There are different devices in terms of power and spectrum of action. You need to pick up a device to cover the entire perimeter. I put one from rats, I don’t even remember the name, then there were no rodent pests on the site. Roofing felts really helped, roofing felts they had not yet reached.
Inefficient ways
It will not work to destroy moles with your hands or with the help of cats and dogs. Animals should be hunters, favorite pets will not dig in the ground in search of food. But some say that when the animals appeared, the moles left the site. But maybe it's just a coincidence.
Prevention
Creating an underground fence is a great solution.
- A ditch is dug along the perimeter of the garden or greenhouse (depth 50 - 70 cm).
- Install a mesh or old roofing material.
- The grid can be used metal or plastic, the main thing is that it be fine-meshed.
- The ditch is covered with earth, 20 centimeters can also be left on the surface.
Conclusion
Using various methods, you can avoid the invasion of moles in greenhouses and keep all plants intact. Preventive measures can prevent the appearance of pests, so it is better to start with them. Share your experience and impressions, as well as effective tips for protecting the greenhouse from moles.
