In the warm season, along with the start of the season of trips to nature, the period of activity of ticks begins. This bloodsucker is a carrier of fatal diseases for humans and can penetrate the skin completely imperceptibly, so vacationers need to protect themselves properly. For those who plan to spend a lot of time outside the city, for example, going fishing or hunting, or for workers cleaning up the environment, closed clothing will not be enough, it is better to purchase a special anti-tick suit. Such a suit will reliably protect a person for a long time in the areas inhabited by parasites.

Why you need a protective suit against ticks

A protective suit against ticks will almost 100% protect a person from bloodsuckers. The suit covers the body as much as possible and is sewn in such a way that this type of arachnid cannot get on the skin. Some models of this workwear may contain substances that repel or even kill bloodsuckers, but are safe for humans.

An anti-tick suit is essential for people planning to rest or work in areas where parasites are spread.

Ticks love moisture, shade and settle in tall grass, so fishermen, hunters and hikers need this type of clothing. Having spent money on a suit, a person is guaranteed to save himself from the risk of contracting encephalitis, borreliosis and other serious diseases that blood-sucking parasites carry.

The principle of operation of the protective suit

An anti-tick suit consists of trousers and a jacket (usually with a hood, and sometimes even with a mesh over the face from insects). The main task of such clothing is to prevent the penetration of the parasite on the skin. The suit has several features that protect a person from ticks, as well as from various types of blood-sucking insects.

It is difficult for a tick to get on a person dressed in a protective suit. For tailoring, fabric and parts with a smooth texture are used, which will be difficult for the arachnid to cling to. The risk of being bitten by a tick for people in protective suits is reduced to zero.
The suit covers the body as much as possible, excluding contact of the parasite with the skin. Some of them have an extended lining that can be tucked into (trousers and boots). Overalls also hide the smell of a person.
If the tick still managed to crawl onto the suit, it will not be able to bite. The suit has both mechanical and chemical traps. These are folds, straps and pockets that make it difficult for the parasite to move.

What is the difference between an anti-encephalitis suit and a hunting or fishing suit?

Based on the names of the costumes, they have different purposes. The hunting suit is distinguished by camouflage properties, the fishing suit does not get wet. They do not have those various details that are characteristic of an anti-encephalitis suit, thanks to which a person does not become a victim of a tick:

  • the suit covers the entire body, leaving no exposed skin, and fits well;
  • a special smooth fabric prevents the parasite from clinging to the suit and crawling along it;
  • on the legs and sleeves there are cuffs and special folds, which are a mechanical trap for arachnids;
  • in some models, there is a treatment with a tick agent: getting into the fold of the suit soaked in acaricide, the parasite dies.

It would be wrong to wear hunting or fishing overalls in order to protect against ticks. It will not protect a person in the same way as a suit against ticks.

Requirements for anti-mite clothing

In order for anti-tick clothing to provide a person with a high level of protection against parasites, it must have the following properties:

  • dense smooth fabric;
  • long sleeves and trousers;
  • cuffs and collar, close fitting to the body;
  • lack of large cutouts;
  • zippers;
  • light color;
  • mechanical and chemical traps;
  • hood, mosquito net.

Advantages and disadvantages of tick protection suits

Tick protection suits have various benefits that make them more and more popular.

Among the pluses:

  • almost one hundred percent protection against bites, since parasites will not be able to penetrate the skin;
  • protect not only from ticks, but also from many types of blood-sucking insects;
  • high-quality materials of the suit will provide breathability;
  • durability and wear resistance due to dense material;
  • the presence of traps that destroy ticks;
  • hypoallergenicity;
  • thoughtful cut provides comfort when moving;
  • functionality, due to the hood, mosquito net and various pockets;
  • variety on the market: models for men, women and children.

There are fewer disadvantages, but, like any product, they are present:

  • it can be hot in a suit made of low-quality synthetics, and in summer this problem can even arise with a cotton model of protective clothing due to long sleeves and lining;
  • a good suit with extra details will cost a lot.

How to choose the right suit

There is a wide choice of protective suits against ticks, while the models of different manufacturers differ from each other. It is necessary to choose protective clothing based on criteria that will provide the best protection against bites.

Popular models of encephalitis suits

There are a variety of anti-encephalitis suits on the market. Popular models equally effectively protect a person from parasites, so the choice will depend on individual preferences and the presence of useful features in workwear.

How can I treat a suit against tick attacks

Application of repellents

You can additionally treat the suit with repellents. The most common active ingredient in these drugs is DEET. This tool repels ticks, and, having felt them, the parasite will not even try to climb onto the treated surface. It is more convenient to use sprays. After applying the drug to the clothes, you need to wait until it dries completely.

Proper use

To avoid possible allergic reactions, it is necessary to treat areas of the suit that do not come into contact with the skin. Such products are active for 12 hours from the moment of application, but some are less effective, and during outdoor recreation, repeated use will be required.

Care instructions

Most protective suits already have acaricidal impregnation. It does not lose its properties for about three years and can withstand up to 50 washes. After that, you can again apply acaricides to the suit. These substances destroy ticks by paralyzing them. Usually, special folds of the suit are processed, which are traps for parasites.

How long can mites live on clothes

While on clothing, a tick can live for some time without a food source. It all depends on the environmental conditions. On dry clothes (also at high temperatures and direct sunlight), the tick will die in a few days or even a day.

If there is high humidity around, his life will increase to several months, especially if before that he was fed up with blood.

However, the tick will not stay on the clothes all this time. When passive hunting does not bring results, the parasite begins to move slowly in search of prey, capturing warmth and smells with its receptors.

Once on the surface treated with acaricide, the tick will not survive. In a few minutes, this substance will cause paralysis in the bloodsucker, and he will die.
