Description of the tick
The tick is an arthropod, which belongs to arachnids. There are more than 54 thousand of their species, so the appearance and habits of different representatives are different. But the structure and features are approximately the same.
The structure of the tick
Arthropods are divided into two types, depending on the structure. They may have a body:
- fused head and chest, species are called leathery;
- with a movable attachment of the head to the body, but with a dense shell. They are called armored.
Insects can be from 0,08 mm to 4 mm in size. None of the representatives has wings and can't jump.
Sight, touch and nutrition
Ticks do not have organs of vision as such, they do not have eyes. But thanks to their sense organs, they are good hunters. The oral apparatus consists of chelicerae and pedipalps. The first serve to grind food, and the second - to worry.
Type of food
Ticks can be of two types depending on their dietary preferences: saprophages and predators.
A feature of this class is the highest adaptability to the environmental conditions in which they live.
Reproduction and life cycle
Among ticks, there are practically no individuals capable of live birth. Most of them go through a full life cycle.
Tick development cycle
It is convenient to trace the life cycle on the example of predatory species of ticks.
Types of ticks
Many species of ticks have not yet been studied at all. They are distributed everywhere and in all places of the biosphere. Not all are pests, but there are dangerous representatives.
