Description of the species

Black hornet.

Black hornet.

The body size is from 1,8 to 3,5 cm. In rare cases, it can reach 5 cm. The insect has a black body color and dark wings. Wings come with a blue tint.

There is an ovipositor at the end of the belly. It performs the function of a sting. The difference from relatives lies in the absence of transverse stripes and a completely dark body. There are no yellow spots on the body.

Distribution area

This variety is common in China, Thailand, Korea, Japan. There are very few of them on the territory of the Russian Federation. This species is the rarest among the others. In Russia, it can be found in Transbaikalia and the Amur Region.

Life cycle

The way of life can be called parasitic.

Place

In autumn, the female searches for other people's nests. The female selects the smallest representatives and attacks their uterus, killing it.

Creating a family

The uterus disguises itself as a murdered queen. This is possible due to the release of a special substance. Working individuals consider her the queen. She successfully runs the colony. If there are enough soldiers in the nest, then the female may not achieve her goal, she will not be allowed to take over someone else's place.

The appearance of the larvae

The queen lays her eggs either in a newly created nest or one she has entered. After a while, larvae appear. Worker hornets get food for their offspring. The larvae are formed, the mating period begins. After that, some of the individuals die.

Hornet Diet

Black hornets.

The black hornet is a lover of sweets.

Adult hornets feed on the nectar of flowers. In search of food, they attack other people's nests. They also prefer berries and fruits. Insects greatly spoil their appearance.

Larvae need animal protein to fully develop. Adult individuals prey on wasps, small bees, flies. After thorough chewing, give the mixture to the larvae. From the larvae, adult insects receive sweet drops that they feast on.

Black hornet bite

The bite is more painful than in most species. The attack of the colony leads to adverse consequences.

Poison consists of:

  • bradykinin;
  • histamine;
  • antigens;
  • formic acid.

Symptoms include:

  • severe throbbing pain;
  • cardiopalmus;
  • shortness of breath;
  • severe itching.

Damage to the nest can provoke an attack. When appearing on the site, you can not affect the hive. It can be eliminated only when the uterus leaves the home.

Hornets can sting repeatedly. Sensitive people may experience swelling of the mucous membrane, headache. In rare cases, Quincke's edema.

  • it is appropriate to use onions, parsley leaves, dandelion juice, plantain leaves;
  • drink plenty of water. It is not recommended to consume soda;
  • the use of "Cetrin", "Suprastin", "Tavegil" - antihistamines will help. Intramuscular injections will act faster;

Conclusion

This unusual type of hornet is much rarer than the rest. They are distinguished by a dark unnatural color. The bite of a black hornet is quite dangerous and requires first aid.

    I caught such a handsome jar today. Sat on a petunia. I took several photos and videos. Very big and beautiful! For the first time I saw such a huge, and besides, completely black. I didn’t want to let go, but keeping it in the bank was a crime. Released in the front garden. Only from the article I learned that it is listed in the Red Book. Orenburg
