Effective control and eradication of rats and mice requires cooperation with a contractor. In this context, we consider the essence of pest control, the process of selecting a reliable contractor, establishing effective interaction between the customer and the contractor, as well as methods for ensuring the safety of the enterprise from rodents.

What is deratization and why is it important to know about it?

From the beginning of September 2021, enterprises are required to carry out deratization in accordance with the requirements of Chapter III of SanPiN 3.3686-21. Despite this, many employees and company managers are still not clear what the processes of this procedure are.

Strictly speaking, pest control is a scientifically based technology for influencing communities of harmful animals in order to limit their numbers and prevent the harm they cause. Some employees may perceive pest control as providing little bags to place in the corners of the room. For example, if these “bags” contain rat poison, such misunderstanding can cause negative consequences.

According to SanPiN, deratization is a system of comprehensive measures aimed at reducing the number or exterminating rodents. At sites of epidemiological significance, deratization is carried out after monthly monitoring of pest control points located both on the internal territory (buildings and structures of enterprises) and on external areas.

How pest control points are installed:

  1. For external territory: Bait briquettes are placed in special containers, numbered and arranged in accordance with the preliminary placement plan.
  2. For internal territory: Non-toxic glue traps are installed in special live traps, numbered and located according to a pre-developed plan.

If rodents are found in installed traps, it becomes clear that deratization at the enterprise is an urgent need.

Who can carry out pest control according to the law?

The entire range of pest control measures can be carried out by a company if:

  1. Its constituent documents stipulate the implementation of disinfection, deratization and disinfestation activities in accordance with paragraph 89 of SanPiN 3.3686-21, and it also has a corresponding OKVED 2 code - 81.29.1.
  2. She entered into an agreement for the provision of pest control services with the performing company.

Most businesses prefer the services of a contractor, as it is more convenient and reliable. However, it is important to understand that the pest control system, as part of the overall pest control system, cannot function and develop effectively without established interaction and dialogue between the customer and the contractor.

Where does pest control begin and why is the action plan so important?

The set of measures for deratization at sites includes the following stages:

  1. A survey to determine the species composition, number of rodents, population of territories and assess their sanitary and hygienic condition.
  2. Development of tactics and methods of deratization, determination of the volume of extermination and preventive measures.
  3. Carrying out deratization.
  4. Evaluation of the results of the activities carried out.

Deratization begins with an inspection of the premises and territory of the enterprise. For example, for a restaurant, the contractor is required to inspect both the interior of the building and the surrounding area. The success of pest control depends on various factors, including the condition of the building walls, the location of garbage containers and the frequency of garbage collection. Even details such as the material of trash cans and the presence of lids can play a role in preventing rodents from accessing waste.

After the audit, an action plan for deratization is developed, which takes into account actions both on internal and external territories. The plan obliges the completion of work within the established time frame and promotes effective cooperation with the contractor.
