1 minutes. for reading

Have you ever wondered how many species of beetles there are? Answer: a lot! There are more than 350,000 species of beetles on Earth, and scientists are discovering more every day. Did you know that some of the living bugs existed when dinosaurs walked the planet? These pests can adapt to the environment, whether it is warmer or rainier than they are used to. This flexibility allows the beetles to survive in almost any habitat and continue to reproduce strong offspring.

Depending on the type of bug, they could be spreading germs to the food in your kitchen or even chewing on your couch. Below are some of the most common bugs you may find in your home:

Carpet beetle

These beetles get their name from their tendency to feed on the wool that some carpets were made from many years ago. Carpet beetles are commonly found in attics and old carpets and tapestries where they can feed on the material.

Trade grain beetle

Besides grains, these bugs have a sweet tooth! Trader beetles sometimes snack on the cereal, cake mixes and chocolate in your cupboards.

Powdered mail bugs

Powder beetles can cause damage to the floors and furniture in your home because they love to eat hardwood. These beetles are believed to be the second most destructive pest of wood products after termites!

Weevils are known for their long snouts and can hide in the kitchen. While they won't cause any harm to your home, they can ruin stored grain.

Ground beetles, one of the most common types of beetles in North America, do not cause any harm, but become annoying when they get into the home. Considering how many species of beetles there are, ground beetles are one of the least threatening types.
